Erhan Arıklı, the leader of the Renewal Party (YDP), announced that the party has decided to withdraw from the government after being dismissed by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel. He brought this news to social media, stating, “This is the end of the road.” Later that evening, he convened the YDP Party Council to formalize this decision.
After his dismissal, Arıklı stated that the decision would be communicated in writing to Prime Minister Ünal Üstel the following day. Reminding that he was removed from the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, he expressed his intention to apply for the lifting of his parliamentary immunity.
Arıklı shared that Prime Minister Ünal Üstel called him at night and said, “I have to dismiss you for the sake of the integrity of the investigation.” He mentioned that he views this as an opportunity and expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister for providing him this chance.
Moreover, Arıklı mentioned that he believed the government should hold elections sooner, and indicated that he had reached the point of resigning due to various issues within the current government. However, he also noted that he postponed this decision in light of different reactions.
Regarding the ongoing process related to the 19 missing individuals in a maritime disaster off the coast of Kyrenia, Erhan Arıklı stated that they do not want to engage in political discussions. “The families of the missing are waiting in great sorrow. I will refrain from making statements during this process,” he said.
Arıklı emphasized that they would not make extensive comments to the media until the missing are accounted for. Ultimately, he reiterated that he and his party have withdrawn from the government.
