The Labor Department, affiliated with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, has issued written warnings to 19 businesses across the country for violating work restrictions due to high temperatures. Following the warnings, it was reported that activities at the implicated workplaces were halted.
Purpose of Inspections
In a statement by the ministry, it was emphasized that working outdoors and directly under the sun is prohibited from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, particularly between August 5 and 15. The inspections conducted during this period aim to protect the health and safety of workers.
Planned Inspections and Violations
Inspections carried out yesterday and today thoroughly examined workplaces in the regions of Nicosia, Kyrenia, Güzelyurt, and Famagusta. As a result of the checks, it was determined that 7 workplaces in Nicosia, 5 in Kyrenia, 2 in Güzelyurt, and 5 in Famagusta employed workers during the prohibited hours. Written warnings were issued to these businesses, and necessary precautions were taken immediately.
The ministry announced that employers who violate the regulations will first receive a written notification, and if the same violation occurs again, a fine equivalent to one minimum wage will be imposed. The importance of adhering to occupational health and safety rules was reiterated as the hot weather conditions continue.
The Labor Department stated that all complaints received through the Alo Notification Line to prevent violations will be evaluated seriously, and inspections will be carried out meticulously. It was also noted that legal actions will be rigorously applied against employers who fail to comply with occupational health and safety regulations.
