In a ferry accident that occurred in Kyrenia, Ayten Biçer, the mother of 12-year-old Saliha Miray Biçer and 9-year-old brother Mehmet Asaf Biçer, shared the incident with tears in her eyes. Biçer conveyed the impact the incident had on her and her children.
During the incident, Ayten Biçer stated that her two children were trapped inside the ferry without life jackets, creating a chaotic panic environment. According to her account, there was a mentality among the passengers where they tried to climb over each other in their efforts to escape. Her children shouted out for help, strongly calling, “Mom, don’t let go of our hands!”
As Biçer recounted those moments, she was overcome with tears. She expressed that her children were left inside the ferry and struggled to get life jackets. She noted that she and her husband were rescued with the help of other passengers during the accident.
Recalling the fear caused by suitcases falling on them and the fuel present inside the ferry, Biçer stated, “There was fuel, and everything was slippery.” She also emphasized that they had come for a vacation and encountered such an incident on their way home.
Biçer mentioned that the staff on the ferry made efforts to alleviate the passengers’ concerns, providing psychological support by saying, “Stay calm, haven’t you at least dipped your feet in the sea?”
