B.G., who is accused of threatening his wife in an attempt to end their 26-year marriage, appeared in court. Allegedly, B.G. threatened his wife by saying, “There is a gun in the car; I will shoot you in the head, and I will kill you and the children too.” The suspect denied the charges during the hearing, claiming that these words were said in a moment of anger.
Birkan Gertik, a police officer from the Girne Judicial Branch, testified in court that the suspect had arrived in the country recently and that his work permit is valid until January 27, 2027. Gertik noted that the suspect threatened not only his wife, who wishes to divorce, but also their children. He also mentioned that, upon his wife’s complaint, the suspect was arrested and that the children also filed complaints against him.
B.G. stated that during their 26-year marriage, they have three children, emphasizing that these threats were words spoken in a moment of stress. Defending himself, he said, “I don’t want a divorce; I have no one but God.” He requested to be released by the court.
The court president, Hazal Hacımulla, prohibited B.G. from leaving the country due to the case that will be seen in the future and allowed his release under the condition that he pays a cash guarantee of 30,000 TL and has a citizen of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus sign a bail bond of 500,000 TL.
However, B.G. was unable to meet the conditions set by the court for the guarantee and was therefore sent to prison as an unconvicted detainee. The suspect’s situation is being closely monitored following the hearing.
