The Serbian music company Exit has decided to withdraw from the Nexus electronic music festival, scheduled to take place on September 18 at Kyrenia Castle. This decision comes in response to increasing diplomatic and political pressures surrounding the event.
Geadis Geadi, a Member of the European Parliament from ELAM, played a significant role in the process leading to the festival’s cancellation. He announced that he received news of the organizers’ withdrawal on Wednesday following discussions with authorities in Serbia, and a formal apology statement will be published in the coming days.
Artists planned to participate in the Nexus festival included Swedish DJ Eric Prydz, the Italian duo Mathame, Cairo-based DJ Baset, and Polish producer ANII. The festival had been announced as part of the Exit World Tour, but its cancellation has raised questions about how this event is organized.
Geadi stated that he contacted the Serbian embassies in Cyprus, Brussels, and Switzerland following the backlash against the festival. Serbian government officials informed him that there is no current contact with the organizers.
During a conference call on Monday with the festival organizers and legal advisors, the organizers expressed their intention to withdraw and their apologies. Geadi mentioned that he received this information on Tuesday and Wednesday.
