A dispute during a card game in Nicosia resulted in the injury of an individual identified as M.K., whose nose was broken. The suspect, S.Ş., was apprehended after evading the authorities for 29 days. The incident occurred on June 17, 2026, at Cuma’s Coffee House, where an argument escalated into a physical fight between S.Ş. and M.K. During the altercation, S.Ş. punched M.K. in the nose, causing a serious injury.
The police announced that a complaint regarding the incident was filed on June 20. On the day of the incident, M.K. was examined at the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia and received a medical report confirming a broken nose. Following this report, the police issued a warrant for the arrest of S.Ş.
After being at large for an extended period, the suspect was captured in Gazimağusa on August 18, 2026. During the investigation, it was noted that S.Ş. had previous convictions for similar offenses, but there was no open case against him.
According to the information presented by the police to the court, S.Ş. will be tried in the High Criminal Court for the crimes he committed. The court ordered a prohibition on the suspect’s departure from the country and mandated a cash bail of 30,000 lira, as well as the signing of a bond of one million lira by a guarantor.
This incident not only shocked the community but also served as a warning about how card games can escalate into dangerous situations, highlighting the potential consequences of such behaviors.
