President Highlights Youth Issues
President Tufan Erhürman emphasized the necessity of encouraging young people to stay in the country after completing their education while speaking at the Congress of Turkish Cypriot University Students. Erhürman pointed out that this effort is a key indicator of the conditions that must be established for youth to desire to remain in their country or return.
Taking a perspective beyond his own position, Erhürman expressed that young people need to show greater sensitivity to social issues. He noted that despite it being a holiday and a weekend, it is commendable that students are holding a congress to discuss important social issues.
A Call to Speak the Truth
Stressing that young people must be braver and more candid about their country’s problems, the President used the phrase, “Speak the truth openly.” He emphasized the importance of young people exhibiting critical thinking and that they should do so courageously.
The President also highlighted Cyprus and the region’s natural wealth, affirming that well-educated youth have the potential to further advance these values. In this context, he noted that young people must be aware of their own potential and actualize it effectively.
Erhürman stated that the concept of youth represents not just the future but also the present, addressing how significant the steps taken today by young people are for societal existence.
Finally, he emphasized the need to establish conditions that would encourage youth to stay in the country or return. Erhürman warned that if no steps are taken in this area, it would pose a significant threat to the future of the Turkish Cypriot community.
