During the holiday, we had the opportunity to rent a car and explore many places in the area. The magnificent views of the Taurus Mountains, the dam lakes, and the rivers suitable for rafting attracted everyone’s attention. During this trip, one of the young locals shared that he was continuing his studies at Cyprus University, coming from a village on the summit of Taurus. Such intellectual discussions added a different dimension to the spirit of the holiday.
But the holiday was not all about enjoyable moments. During the trip, news arrived about a stabbing incident in the metropolis. The Minister of Interior announced that the assailant arrived on the island on July 30. Such frightening events can suddenly darken the peaceful atmosphere of a holiday.
Another noteworthy development was the increase in traffic fines. News flashing on phones while traveling drew attention to the economic difficulties and our financial situations. There were uncertainties regarding the effectiveness of the new traffic cameras. It had become more important than ever to be cautious while on the road.
Amid all these events, the news of the passing of former Chief Prosecutor Aşkan İlgen served as a bitter memory of the holiday. The loss of İlgen, a prominent figure in Cyprus, deeply saddened many. Memories of past shared moments lingered in people’s minds, recalling his kindness and sense of justice.
