The search operations for missing individuals following the sinking of the passenger ship Filo Jet, which was operating between Girne and Taşucu, continue. The wreck of the ship is located at a depth of approximately 550 meters, while the relatives of the missing are anxiously awaiting at the entrance of the Girne Tourism Port.
The search operations involve support from several vessels and 11 air vehicles, including the Turkish Navy ships TCG Işın and TCG Alemdar. These efforts are being carried out continuously every 24 hours.
Under the coordination of the Navy, underwater robots and specialized equipment are being utilized in the search and rescue operations. Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, the Chief of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident and conveyed wishes for a speedy recovery to those rescued.
A formal technical investigation was initiated to determine the cause of the accident. Durali İşler, the Head of the Maritime Accidents Investigation Department at the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, is currently conducting investigations in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Additionally, the families of the missing had the opportunity to meet with Vice President of Turkey Cevdet Yılmaz. Yılmaz visited Girne Port around 3:00 PM and met with representatives from the families of the missing.
As the search efforts continue, authorities in the port area are in constant contact with the families. Moreover, personnel from the Social Services Department, affiliated with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, and psychologists from the Ministry of Health are also providing support in the area.
Hotels and other establishments are continuing to assist the families of the missing with food and other basic needs. Throughout this process, families are finding some solace with the support coming from the state and local authorities.
