Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul drew attention to the increasing security problems in Northern Cyprus, making a significant call to action to Ünal Üstel, the leader of the National Unity Party. Şenkul emphasized that instead of creating polemics, Üstel should return to his duties and make effective decisions.
Criticism Highlighting the Security Crisis
In a statement regarding recent murders, loss of stability, and traffic accidents in the country, Şenkul expressed that these issues have been ignored by the government. He pointed out that the public is worried about the incidents and urged Üstel not to limit his response to mere criticism.
Government’s Silence Criticized
After criticizing the government’s silence on the issue in a statement made via social media, Şenkul invited Üstel to take action. He noted that the government has delayed making necessary decisions that should be taken swiftly, stating that the public is aware of the reality and will make this clear in the elections to be held in four months.
Şenkul also highlighted that he does not necessarily align with the views of the UBP and stated that his evaluations regarding the current government are independent. Clearly defining his targets for criticism, Şenkul said, “The National Unity Party is an important part of this country. However, I want to state that I sometimes have different opinions about the personal approaches of the Prime Minister.”
Call for the Prime Minister to Return Seriously
In his statements, Şenkul indicated that rather than engaging in childish disputes, Üstel should end his vacation and return to work. “Focus on the real situation rather than just throwing verbal jabs,” Şenkul reiterated that the Girne Municipality is always ready to support measures to be taken regarding security.
Recalling the two murders and other serious judicial incidents that occurred in the past week, Şenkul pointed out that the perpetrators were fugitives and individuals with tourist status. He stated that this situation increases the urgency, calling on Üstel and the Minister of Interior to act swiftly on these matters.
Finally, in response to Üstel’s criticisms of “performing as a social media influencer,” Şenkul emphasized that the governance of the state should be taken seriously and reaffirmed the importance of the issue.
