In a traffic accident on the Güzelyurt-Lefkoşa highway, Melis Luman sustained severe injuries and sadly lost her life. Following this incident, E.K., the truck driver involved in the accident, was presented in court and was heavily bonded. An extensive investigation into the incident has been conducted following Luman’s death.
Melis Luman, 36 years old, was driving her car, plate number VP 156, towards Lefkoşa when the accident occurred at around 4:00 PM on August 12, 2026, between kilometers 14 and 15 of the Güzelyurt-Lefkoşa highway. Her vehicle stopped due to a blown tire, after which it collided with the rear of a truck driven by E.K., plate number YJ 048.
According to police statements, Melis Luman was severely injured in the accident, while the passenger Cansu İçer and the truck driver E.K. sustained minor injuries. All three were immediately taken to Lefkoşa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital for treatment. E.K. was detained for three days following the accident and was released on bond on August 15.
After Luman passed away in the hospital on August 23, 2026, E.K. faced updated charges of “causing death by negligence.” The police indicated that the part of the investigation in which the suspect could interfere was completed, leading to a renewed request for a bond under the new circumstances.
The court prohibited E.K. from leaving the country and ordered a 120,000 TL cash bond to be posted, along with a guarantee from a co-signer for a bond of 500,000 TL. These developments emphasize the seriousness of the processes and responsibilities associated with the accident.
