After a meeting with the management of Cypfruvex, the Turkish Cypriot Citrus Producers Union made significant statements regarding producer receivables. Members reported that no specific payment schedule was established, and they announced plans to initiate action within 10-15 days if payments are not made.
During the meeting held on August 17, the discussion centered around the 74,000 tons of citrus harvested by Cypfruvex for the 2025-2026 citrus season, with a product value of approximately 700 million lira. The Union indicated that they did not receive a clear payment date from Cypfruvex management during this meeting.
According to the statement, producers are currently struggling to cope with rising costs of electricity, water, fertilizer, pesticides, labor, and other inputs. Furthermore, the delayed payments for product values have led to severe financial difficulties for the producers. This has brought many producers to the brink of disengagement from production as they struggle to secure the necessary financing to grow their crops for the next season.
The Union emphasized that the Ministries of Agriculture, Economy, and Finance need to urgently convene to create a clear plan and schedule for payments. The priority for producers is to sell their products at their genuine value and to receive the payments for their hard work without delay.
The Union Board stated, “If payments are not made, we have a roadmap ready within 10-15 days. We will continue to fight until we achieve results,” reiterating the seriousness of the situation.
