A total of 15 fires and 19 rescue incidents occurred in Northern Cyprus over the past week. This situation reflects that local fire crews have been extremely busy ensuring the safety of citizens.
Fire officials stated that the total damage caused by the fires was estimated at 83 million 728 thousand 500 TL. The fires were recorded in various regions with 4 incidents in Nicosia, 3 in Kyrenia, 2 each in Çağlayan, Kyrenia, and Dipkarpaz, and 1 each in Famagusta and Güzelyurt.
Causes and Effects of the Fires
Possible causes of the fires include short circuits caused by electrical sources, discarded cigarette butts that were not extinguished, sparks from electric wires touching each other due to wind, and fuel leaks. Such fires cause serious damage to residential areas and have led to public distress among the local population.
Response to Rescue Incidents
Among the 19 reported rescue incidents were various situations including fire prevention measures, rescuing goats that fell into wells, retrieving vehicle engines stuck in building shafts, and saving kittens trapped in sewer pipes. Additionally, the transfer of individuals who lost their lives in tragic incidents to hospitals for autopsy purposes was also counted as part of the rescue incidents.
