Decline of Peace and Security
Özdenefe pointed out that the sense of peace and security in society has been gradually diminishing and emphasized the critical importance of finding sustainable solutions. In this context, she noted that reliance on only temporary measures is insufficient, and a more planned intervention approach must be adopted.
Özdenefe stated that the police force is working diligently with existing resources and mentioned that border and immigration controls have been increased recently. However, she highlighted that it is not possible to overcome current security issues solely through police intervention or immediate solutions to incidents. Instead, she underscored the need to develop a series of preventive policies that address the root causes of crime.
Need for Structural Reforms
Furthermore, Özdenefe criticized the UBP-DP-YDP Government, stating that the necessary structural changes have not been implemented. She emphasized that the fight against crime should not be limited to judicial processes. The key is to implement strategies that eliminate the conditions triggering crime and to increase the state’s oversight capacity.
Özdenefe said that the overcrowding rates in prisons and immigration amnesties do not provide lasting solutions, noting that the negative impacts of the undocumented population have weakened security policies due to steps taken without sufficient evaluation. She warned that the informal lifestyle must be deterred, or it risks normalization.
Moreover, she emphasized that if managed effectively, the multicultural structure of the country could create significant enrichment. In this regard, she stated the need to establish effective registration and oversight systems and to implement policies that support social cohesion.
Özdenefe stated that if they come to power, they will immediately start census activities and create a registered and verifiable system for tourists, students, and workers. She noted that this system will also encompass universities and employers.
In conclusion, she stressed that building a safe and peaceful society is only possible through proper planning, strong oversight, and preventive measures.
