President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that Turkey is providing support for the search efforts launched to locate the missing passengers from the Filo Jet passenger ship that sank off the coast of Kyrenia. Erdoğan emphasized the significance of this operation, which involves 9 ships and 11 aircraft.
In his remarks following a cabinet meeting, Erdoğan disclosed that 14 people lost their lives in the capsizing incident and that 14 others are still missing. It was reported that the ship sank shortly after departing from the Kyrenia Tourism Port.
The search and rescue operations are being conducted with powerful underwater vehicles and robotic systems. The wreck is said to be located approximately 554 meters deep. It was also mentioned that the Turkish Navy’s TCG Işın and TCG Alemdar ships are providing support for the efforts.
Families of the missing are following the search efforts from tents set up at the entrance of the Kyrenia Tourism Port. Kyrenia Municipality, local hotels, and other organizations are providing various support to address the needs of these families, assisting them during this challenging time.
During the assistance process, basic necessities such as water and food are being offered to the families throughout the day. Additionally, a team of specialists from Turkey is involved in the process to provide psychological support to the families.
A comprehensive investigation into the incident is currently ongoing, and in this context, it was reported that the authorities of the TRNC have detained the captain of the ship along with seven crew members. This investigation is crucial for effectively determining the causes of the accident.

Erdoğan also mentioned that support has been extended for other shipwrecks occurring near Silivri, in addition to the ongoing search efforts.
