The president of the Martyrs’ Families and Disabled Veterans Association, Gürsel Benan, stated that their current building has reached the end of its usable life. He expressed that they have been searching for a new location for the past three years, and that discussions initiated with relevant ministries have yielded no results. Benan mentioned that three different locations they found could not be utilized for various reasons.
Benan emphasized that their current location has a labyrinth-like structure, which has prevented the Şehitler Ölmez Museum from operating effectively. He stressed that a new location is intended to facilitate the administrative operations of the association as well as to expand the museum. Furthermore, he indicated that this request should not be seen merely as a political party agenda, but rather as a demand made on behalf of the martyrs’ families and disabled veterans.
Officials from TİKA, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, carried out inspections at the association’s current location and communicated their willingness to assist as significant financiers. Benan relayed that TİKA mentioned they would construct a more modern service building if they could find them a suitable location.
Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz made a statement regarding the matter, confirming the legitimacy of the Martyrs’ Families and Disabled Veterans Association’s request for a new location. Oğuz expressed that efforts are ongoing to resolve issues through dialogues between the ministry and the association. He also highlighted that the families of martyrs are always a priority and that they will not be indifferent to their needs.
During the discussions, the minister noted that some suitable lands could not be allocated to the association due to reasons such as being military zones. However, he stated that the necessary instructions have been given to resolve the issues and that land will be allocated for the construction of a new building for the association as soon as possible.
The activities of the Martyrs’ Families and Disabled Veterans Association demand robust support, taking into account social sensitivities. In this regard, the association’s specific requests are drawing public attention.
In conclusion, both the association officials and the ministry indicate they are in positive communication, assuring that the process will be resolved as swiftly as possible. This may finally free the association from weeks or possibly months of uncertainty.
