Turkcell North Cyprus has signed an important protocol with the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTHK) to activate its 5G services. This agreement is set to usher in a new era in North Cyprus’s digital transformation process.
The signing ceremony took place at the BTHK headquarters, attended by Associate Professor Dr. Kadri Bürüncük, Chairman of BTHK’s Board of Directors, and Murat Küçüközdemir, General Manager of Turkcell North Cyprus. Among the participants representing BTHK were Vice Chairman Tayfun Aydınlı and Communication Expert Salih Mahan. Turkcell North Cyprus was represented by its Deputy General Managers and other specialists.
The launch of the 5G service is scheduled for November 15, 2026. In line with the permissions granted by BTHK, additional frequency bands will be utilized alongside the existing ones. This will enhance not only mobile communication but also home internet experiences through the high speed and capacity provided by 5G.
Turkcell North Cyprus aims to offer its users high-speed wireless internet through its 5G-enabled Superbox solutions. This solution is expected to provide a significant alternative in areas with limited fixed internet infrastructure.
Bürüncük: 5G is a Critical Step for Digital Transformation
Emphasizing that the protocol is a significant step in terms of 5G technology, BTHK Board Chairman Associate Professor Dr. Kadri Bürüncük indicated that this technology will enhance North Cyprus’s digitalization capacity. Bürüncük noted that 5G will not only provide high-speed and quality communication services but will also create new opportunities for both the public and private sectors.
Furthermore, it was stated that the transition process would be completed in accordance with all technical requirements and public benefit provisions following the signing of the protocol. Bürüncük expressed hopes that the signed protocol will bring benefits to the country.
Küçüközdemir: We are Investing in the Future with 5G
The General Manager of Turkcell North Cyprus, Murat Küçüközdemir, emphasized that the signed protocol marks a significant milestone in the company’s 5G journey. Küçüközdemir also mentioned that 5G demo tests have been successfully completed. He stated that this new technology will create new opportunities for both individuals and institutions.
Küçüközdemir explained that the high-capacity, fast internet provided by 5G will not be limited to mobile devices but will also be available in homes through 5G-enabled Superbox solutions. North Cyprus will experience the impacts of 5G in sectors such as education, healthcare, tourism, and production, opening the doors to a digital future.
Küçüközdemir thanked all institutions and colleagues that contributed to this process and stated that they will continue to add value to Cyprus through their investments.
