Recently escalating tensions between the United States and Iran have caused a significant rise in oil prices. The US has commenced airstrikes on Iranian targets around the Strait of Hormuz. This operation followed attacks by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on commercial vessels.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that bombings targeting various locations in Iran have begun. Reports from Iran indicate that explosions have been heard especially near Kish Island. However, the lack of detailed information about the targets creates uncertainty.

Strong Statements from the US President

US President Donald Trump stated that a much stronger response would be given if Iran retaliates. Trump drew attention by saying, “We are ready to provide a higher level of responses against Iran.” Additionally, a spokesperson for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards warned that the US would regret its new attacks.

All these developments increase the likelihood of the conflict between the US and Iran escalating into a large-scale military confrontation. Iranian missile attacks following the US assault on Larak Island are also among the factors triggering this escalation.

The Oil Market Faces Negative Impacts

Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz are directly affecting global energy markets. Following news of new attacks, the increase in Brent crude oil prices accelerated, continuing with nearly a 2% rise during the day. Additionally, two supertankers belonging to Saudi Arabia were struck in the Strait of Hormuz recently. This situation further heightens security concerns in the region.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf reacted to pressures on oil exports, stating, “If the enemy wants to prevent our oil exports from this region, no one will be able to export.” The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also warned that all military and diplomatic options would be utilized.

In summary, the deepening clash between the US and Iran and the tensions in the Strait of Hormuz are causing fluctuations in global energy markets. This situation is leading to rising prices due to fears of disruptions in oil shipments.
