The International Magosa Film Festival is set to make its debut this year, announcing a total of 42 finalist films. The Gazimağusa Municipality has revealed that the screenings will take place from October 9-11, free and open to the public.
The festival aims to bring together filmmakers from around the globe in Gazimağusa. A preliminary jury, chaired by Mert Yusuf Özlük, selected the 42 films designated as finalists. These films will be evaluated by the main jury and will compete for awards in various categories.
The festival is envisioned to become one of the country’s key cultural and artistic projects in the years to come. Competitions will be held under two main categories: Short Fiction Film and Documentary Film.
Ezel Akay will chair the Short Fiction Film category, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yetin Arslan will lead the Documentary Film category. The award winners, determined by the main jury, will be announced on the festival’s final day.
The finalist films feature productions from diverse countries, including Turkey, Iran, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Georgia, Denmark, China, Czech Republic, Palestine, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Italy, Greece, India, Croatia, Spain, Costa Rica, the USA, Belarus, Poland, and Ukraine. In addition to the screenings of the finalist films during the festival, various events, discussions, and meetups are also planned.
